The 'Maria Paz Mendoza-Guazon memorial stands out among mausoleums in the Manila Memorial Park as unique, elegant and beautiful. A simple, design of ancient origin - a basic post and beam structure, with concrete, travertine marble, stainless steel, batong buhay and Philippine sea shells - - executed along contemporary fines aptly symbolizes Maria Paz Mendoza Guazon's erudite and liberal mind, rare stamina, tenacity and determination to succeed in every undertaking as it equally reflects her intense love of nature, science, humanity and her country. For the younger generation who may not have heard of Dr. Paz Mendoza-Guazon, here is how the Philippines' Who's Who rates her: "Dr. Maria Paz Mendoza-Guazon was the first woman in the Philippines to graduate in medicine and the first and only Filipino woman to obtain the degree of Doctor of Tropical Medicine. She was also the first president of the National League of Filipino women; the first resident of the Philippine Association of University Women; the first woman elected as alumni member of the Board of Regents of the University of the Philippines and the first woman of the Philippines to receive a high school diploma."
